Letter 1923 September 25, Staten Island, N.Y. [to] Robert Randolph Walters, Unknown / [Edwin Markham]. 1923.

Markham writes Robert trelling him that Mrs. M and Mr. M have been dicussing his Colony matter. They feel it is best they don't get involue. Robert is loking for a name for his summer retreat. Markham suggested the William Morris Hights. Letter is unsigned.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
